1. Artwork width: Measure the finished artwork from left to right.
2. Artwork height: Measure the finished artwork from top to bottom.
3. Artwork depth: Measure the side of the stretched canvas, canvas board, cradled panel or other artwork.

Enter the exact outside width and height of your artwork when ordering. Do not add the reveal or any frame allowance to those measurements. The necessary space is calculated into the finished floater frame.

What Is the Reveal Around the Artwork?

The reveal is the intentional space between the artwork and the inside of the floater frame. It produces the floating appearance and visually separates the artwork from the moulding.

A narrow, even reveal generally creates a clean and professional presentation. The finished opening allowance is handled when the custom frame is made, so you should order using the exact size of the artwork rather than increasing its measurements.

Can Floater Frames Hold Both Canvas and Panel Artwork?

In many cases, yes. Most canvas floater frames can hold compatible panels, and panel-oriented profiles may also hold stretched canvas. Compatibility depends on the construction and depth of the artwork, the frame profile and the attachment method.

Stretched canvas is commonly secured from the back through the predrilled frame holes and into the wooden stretcher bars. Thin panels may require an adhesive mounting method because a screw could pass through the artwork. Always confirm that the selected screw length and mounting method are safe for the artwork before installation.
