Small Silver Picture Frame With Pewter Highlights - V117

This decorative, aged, warm silver picture frame moulding is an excellent choice for classical themes that would be enhanced by Elizabethan ornamentation. In inner lip of the profile features a smooth, minimal scoop leading to a ridge that plateaus, followed by the body of the profile, which is highly patterned and decorative. The overall width of this frame is 1-1/4”.

This elegant and classical picture frame moulding takes inspiration from the Elizabethan era, or rather, the Golden Age of the late Renaissance in England, circa mid-16th century. The decorative ornamentation is made of composition material that sits on a gesso base, with a real wood substrate. Traditionally, the ornamentation would have been hand-carved in the Elizabethan era, as composition stamping only became a common ornamentation method as early as the 19th century.

Best uses for this frame include framing artwork, photos, and memorabilia from a vacation to England, or perhaps framing a theatre poster from a show you attended at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Small watercolors of pastoral scenes would also be enhanced by the look of this design, as would vintage photos in a sepia tone.

Finally, this particular frame is perhaps not suitable to accommodate the thickness of a stretched canvas, as the rabbet depth is a mere 5/16”. It is best to use this frame for works on paper or thin panel.
