This functional picture framing design is a nod to the mission style of the 20th century American Arts & Crafts Movement. This style began in the furniture industry as a response to the growing demand for a “no-frills” lifestyle in common folks after the superfluous design excesses of the Victorian era wore their welcome. Although it is generally perceived that this style reflected handmade woodworking labor, it often utilized factory machinery as the world was shifting toward Modernism.
Ultimately, this moulding is a versatile choice for many uses due to its straightforward simplicity. In fact, we use this moulding in our line of ready made panel floater frames, which are ideal for artists working on small panels such as 6x6 and 5x7. It is also a good choice for fine art prints that exemplify nature, as the genuine cherry hardwood is itself natural and subsequently organic and relatively soft feeling.
