Fillet Gold - F100

This thin gold fillet features a small concave scoop with a shiny gold finish. Fillets such as this can be placed on the inner edge of a mat window next to paper artworks, or under the inner lip of a frame or frame liner to highlight certain aspects of a composition, or to merely provide more contrast and visual depth between the art and picture frame.

In essence, a fillet highlights the shape of the window, which is integral to understanding the thought-process of Renaissance artists and other such traditions of rendering. In this historical context, the shape of the art was perceived as a “portal” into another world, where the goal of painting on a two dimensional surface was to deceive the eye into believing another world exists behind the surface. That’s why the addition of a fillet can oftentimes make things “pop”.

For paintings on canvas, this fillet is perhaps best utilized in conjunction with a fabric frame liner such as our 2” white liner, Linc-wt, or our 1 ¼” black frame liner, Linb-bk. A few appropriate gold picture frames might include V1401 or V666. For a sophisticated look without a fabric liner, try pairing this gold fillet with a wide black frame such as V664.
