This smooth black picture frame features thin metallic-silver pin-striping along both edges of the profile, offering a classy upgraded look from a standard black picture frame. The profile width is 1-5/8”, and the rabbet depth is 5/8”.
What’s unusual and particularly interesting about this profile is the substantial 1” depth of the lip. This lip area differs from the rabbet area, in that the lip is what remains of the frame after the rabbet area is removed in the manufacturing process. The rabbet area is where the art, mats, and glazing sit within the frame profile, while the lip prevents items from falling forward in the frame.
With this black picture frame, the substantial depth of the lip means that this profile could be used as a floater frame to showcase stretched canvases up to 7/8” deep. Simply order the frame 1” larger than the canvas, and add a rigid black backing board to your order. The canvas’ stretcher bars may then be screwed to the backing board from the back side, and the canvas will appear to be floating inside the frame.
The contemporary look of this smooth black picture frame also lends itself to black and white photography and wedding portraits. Possible matboard choices include White Glove 9500 and Etched Black 5598.
