This dark gray, weathered wood picture frame moulding features a refinished and distressed look, ideal for showcasing artwork that utilizes a cool gray, monochromatic color scheme. Examples of ideal artwork for this picture frame include relief prints, woodblock prints, linocut prints, intaglio, drypoint, aquatint, photogravure, and other fine art printmaking works on paper. Offset prints and posters would also be an ideal pairing with this picture frame.
The profile is 1” wide and flat across the face, with a small step down on the outer edge. The sidewall and the step both feature a weathered gray, semi-transparent stained finish that reveals the real wood grain of the substrate. The face of the moulding also features the stained finish as a base layer, but includes a top layer of bluish black color that has been stripped and distressed to reveal the under layers.
The feel of this weathered, dark gray picture frame is reminiscent of harsh, rugged environments and regions affected by cold. In terms of nature scenes, perhaps it would pair best with a painting of a wolf or wolf pack. And don’t forget your matboard options.
