Please be aware that this moulding has markings that make it look distressed. We have sold 1000's of frames using this moulding but there are some customers that feel like the markings are flaws and unsightly.
This moulding is a medium sized, voluptuous wood profile, featuring a warm, aged silver finish with slight distress markings. The inner part of the frame face is flat, followed by a small upward step, then a convex round over arch leading to another small step downward. The final step toward the outer edge of the profile is a steep bevel that transitions into a flat side. The purpose of each step in the profile is to catch the light and emphasize the silver finish.
This moulding design represents the look and feel of the American landscape era of the Hudson River School. Elegant, nostalgic, and with respect to the pioneering era, V667 is classy and functional; timeless and reverent. It could go with contemporary paintings on canvas, or antique maps and other works on paper, especially when matted in off-white or cream colors.
The important thing to consider when designing with this moulding is its deep rabbet. With 1” of space from the profile’s lip to the back, this moulding is ideal for thick art including floated pieces on matboard. For example, an artifact with torn or deckled edges could be displayed using either glass spacers to separate the glazing from the matboard, or a foam core buildup can be achieved between a top and bottom mat, in which the art is mounted directly to the bottom mat.
All in all, this is a versatile moulding profile that is best suited for artworks and artifacts that would be enhanced by an emphasis on nostalgia and a sense of timeless character.
