Please be aware that this moulding has markings that make it look distressed. We have sold 1000's of frames using this moulding but there are some customers that feel like the markings are flaws and unsightly.
V666 is an elegant pre-modern picture frame moulding with a warm gold finish. The inner area of the profile surface has a 1”wide flat space, adjoining the outer area which protrudes upward in a cylindrical fashion that accentuates the visual weight and thickness of the moulding. The warm gold is a mid-tone, as the finish is made to look aged and distressed, with small intentional markings for effect. The gold finish sits on a gesso base, which has been applied to a wood substrate.
This moulding is inspired by the Hudson River School of Painters, who often painted grand scenes of realistic American landscapes. Noteworthy painters within the group include Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Cole and Fredric Edwin Church. V666 is a fine choice for capturing a similar feel of the 1800s, which was informed by a pioneering spirit and an approach to painting that involved glazes to achieve the illusion of depth and vastness in nature.
Of course, V666 is also a complement to modern and post-modern paintings on canvas or panel, as the look of gold is one of timelessness. With a 1” rabbet depth, this profile accommodates original paintings, but also lends itself to thick matted works such as original pastels, where extra space is desired between the art and the matboard. The reason for spacing up the matboard on a pastel is to allow dust to fall behind the mat as it settles. V666 has all the rabbet depth you would need for such a matboard buildup.
Finally, V666 is an easy choice for larger posters and prints, as it is substantial and visually versatile.
