This gorgeous, vintage, metallic picture frame takes its inspiration from the historical town of Spoleto, Italy, which was an ally to Rome during the Second Punic War. The metallic finish of this beautiful wood frame is reminiscent of a forged battle sword, and functions in both medieval and modern design settings due to its sleek finish.
The profile is 1 1/8” wide, with a substantial 7/8” rabbet depth, making this vintage metallic picture frame ideal for both stretched canvas and matted artworks. The profile is mostly flat, with a small step along the outer edge, and slight aged look and texture that fades from the outside toward the inside of the frame, revealing a high sheen metallic finish toward the inner lip.
This vintage, metallic picture frame is ideal for several genres, themes, and mediums. It could be used in conjunction with graphite or charcoal drawings and intaglio fine art prints. It would complement images of salmon, armor, tools, industrial landscapes, and water or highly reflective subjects. Due to the profile’s rabbet depth, this frame can also accommodate float mounts and items that require glass spacers such as pastel paintings.
Black or gray acid free archival mat colors that pair with this vintage, metallic picture frame include Pewter 9895, Before Dark 9598, Dark Shale 9846, Jet Black 9848, and Etched Black 5598, but other colors with more saturated hues may work depending on your artwork and taste.
