Please be aware that this moulding has markings that make it look distressed. We have sold 1000's of frames using this moulding but there are some customers that feel like the markings are flaws and unsightly.
Elegant, classic, and strong are a few ways to describe the understated beauty of this 3” wide Hudson-style picture frame moulding. Fine art landscapes in a realistic style are perhaps the most appropriate pairing with this style, though classic portraiture, plein air paintings, and beveled mirrors would all fit with the look and feel of the Hudson River Collection.
The profile starts with three consecutive, protruding, gold lines on the inner lip, with simulated aging in the grooves between the lines. The body of the profile is an inset, flat shape in a dark plum tone that mimics black, but without the harsh contrast of a true black pigment. The outer gold lines lift up and out of the dark plum body, then recess in the form of a rounded concave scoop, followed by two additional gold lines that complete the shape of the profile.
This particular frame utilizes a representational design approach in the sense that the inner lip has the look of a fillet, the body resembles a dark matboard, and the outer gold area visually relates to a thin gold frame to complete the combination. The benefit of having all of these characteristics in the frame is that you can eliminate the need for those additional framing components, saving money, and simplifying the fitting process.
