A light wood floating painting frame for your art that is 3/4" thick or less. This natural wood floater frames finish features a minimal clear coat over a soft wood to protect the wood while minimizing its visual impact.

In fact, the plain aesthetic of unstained wood mimics the original concept behind floating painting frames that rose to prominence after World War II. At that time, common practice among artists was to protect large abstract and color field paintings with thin strips of raw wood, minimizing the visual impact of a picture frame. That practice evolved into the L-shaped floater frame profile of today.

Artwork that may benefit from the simple aesthetic of this wooden floating painting frame includes original paintings, from representational nature landscapes to hard abstract expressionist works, to trendy country chic collage and earth tone encaustic wax paintings.

Material substrates that could be mounted in this floating painting frame include rigid hardboard panels, ¼” MDF, gatorboard, foamcore, sealed 8-ply matboard, hard acrylic or polycarbonate, sheet metal or aluminum, canvas boards, illustration board, thick sealed watercolor paper, stretched canvas, and more.
