How to choose the right wood moulding profile
This page is built for one goal: pick a wood picture frame moulding/profile and order a made-to-order frame in a standard size or a custom size. Use the profile variety to dial in the look, then choose the build components that match your artwork.
- Paper artwork (prints, posters, photos, puzzles): commonly paired with glass and backing; matting is optional depending on the look and spacing you want.
- Canvas paintings or rigid panels: often ordered as frame-only (no mats, no glass) when glazing isn't needed.
Floater vs. traditional lipped mouldings (fit matters)
Not every profile is meant for every project. Match the frame style to the art so the fit is correct.
- Floater frames: intended for single-layer wall art such as canvas paintings or panels, and they are not meant for matted or glazed projects.
- Lipped mouldings: for matted-and-framed artwork/pictures, choose a wood moulding with a front lip so the art package is held properly.
