Shop #4 and #6 picture framing screws in 3/8", 1/2", and 5/8" lengths for attaching compatible hardware to wood frames. The narrower #4 gauge can suit smaller mouldings, while #6 screws provide a larger gauge where the frame and hardware allow it.
Always compare screw length with the available solid wood thickness before installation. A screw must hold the hardware securely without reaching the frame face or entering the artwork, canvas, mats, glazing, or backing.
Gauge describes screw diameter; length describes how far the screw extends into the wood. The correct combination depends on the hardware hole, the wood available behind that hole, and the load placed on the connection. A longer screw is not automatically safer if the moulding is too thin.

Position the hanger or clip on the back of the moulding, mark the hole, and confirm that the screw path remains completely within solid frame wood. A small pilot hole may help with compatible wood and hardware, but it must remain shallower and narrower than the selected screw.
Use these screws with compatible products from the hangers and fasteners or art securing hardware collections. Never substitute a screw solely because the head looks similar; confirm gauge, length, head seating, and the product instructions.
