Our American-made SoftStrand picture frame wire is uncoated, stranded stainless steel with a bright finish. Its flexibility makes it easier to wrap around compatible frame hangers when preparing wood picture frames for wall display.
Choose #4 wire rated for framed pictures up to 35 pounds, #6 up to 50 pounds, or #8 up to 60 pounds. Each strength is available as a 10-foot cut length or a bulk roll for repeated framing work.
| Wire | Listed maximum picture weight | Available format |
|---|---|---|
| #4 small wire | 35 pounds | 10-foot cut or 625-foot roll |
| #6 medium wire | 50 pounds | 10-foot cut or 465-foot roll |
| #8 large wire | 60 pounds | 10-foot cut or 375-foot roll |
Use the weight of the complete framed assembly, including frame, glazing, mats, artwork, backing, and hardware. Do not size wire from the artwork alone.
The safe capacity cannot exceed the lowest-rated part of the system. Confirm the frame-side hangers, screws, wire, wall hooks, fasteners, and wall construction. Select compatible hangers and fasteners rather than relying on wire as the only support decision.
Attach wire only to hardware that is secured to the frame. Leave enough wire for secure wrapping without creating excessive slack, sharp loose ends, or a wire peak that rises above the frame. The wood-frame fitting guide places wire installation within the complete fitting process.
