Frog Tape
Definition
Frog Tape is a brand of masking tape designed to provide clean, sharp paint lines by preventing paint bleed-through. It is coated with a patented polymer that reacts with water-based paints to form a micro-barrier, sealing the tape edges. Known for its light to medium tack, it is widely used in painting, crafts, and graphic arts applications where precision edges are essential. Its low-tack adhesive also makes it safer for delicate surfaces compared to traditional masking tapes.
Uses
- Creating crisp edges in wall painting and decorative finishes.
- Masking off frame mouldings or mats during restoration or finishing work.
- Graphic arts projects requiring sharp, bleed-free lines.
- Protecting delicate surfaces such as glass, acrylic, or finished wood during framing assembly.
Best Practices
- Apply tape to a clean, dry surface for best adhesion and sharp edges.
- Press down firmly along the tape edge to activate the polymer barrier.
- Remove within the recommended time window (usually within 21 days for delicate surfaces, or sooner for painted surfaces).
- Peel tape back at a 45° angle to minimize the chance of lifting paint or surface finish.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to high humidity or heat, which may weaken adhesion.
