SH Tape
Overview
SH Tape is a pressure-sensitive cloth hinging tape commonly used in conservation framing and archival mounting. It is designed to securely hinge heavier paper artworks, prints, and other flat media to a backing board behind a mat without the need for moisture or heat activation. The tape's cloth composition provides strength and flexibility, allowing for safe positioning and adjustment of the artwork during framing.
Applications
- Hinging heavier or oversized paper artworks behind mats.
- Securing prints, posters, or limited edition works for conservation framing.
- Temporary or semi-permanent attachment in gallery installations or exhibitions.
- Works with both acid-free backing boards and standard mats, though archival-grade materials are recommended.
Best Practices
- Use archival-quality, acid-free backing boards to prevent acid migration into the artwork.
- Cut the tape into precise lengths to avoid excessive adhesive exposure.
- Press firmly but gently to avoid tearing or damaging fragile paper surfaces.
- Test on a small area first when working with extremely delicate or historic works.
