Compare color, core, and bevel depth

Bright white creates a crisper transition, soft white provides a quieter neutral, cream coordinates with warmer paper and artwork, and black adds stronger contrast. The 4-ply options have a white core, so a narrow white bevel appears at the opening. Crescent Select Conservation Solids carry their face color through the thicker 8-ply bevel.

Color on a monitor is only a starting point. Compare order picture mat samples with the artwork, frame, wall, and room lighting when the exact white, cream, or black tone matters.

Read the outside size, window opening, and quantity

The outside size is the complete width and height of the mat. The window opening is the area through which the artwork is viewed. Two mats with the same outside size can fit different artwork when their window openings differ, so confirm both measurements before ordering.

Quantity also varies by product. The listed 8-ply bundles contain 10 mats. Most 4-ply 8 x 10 bundles contain 25 mats, most larger 4-ply bundles contain 24 mats, and the listed 5 x 7 and 6 x 8 Berkshire bundles contain 50 mats. Use the quantity shown on the exact product page.

Choose single or double mats

A single mat creates one border around the artwork. Each double mat bundle uses two layers of the same listed color and arrives assembled. The second layer adds depth and another visible edge around the opening without introducing a different mat color.

Plan the complete framing package

An archival mat is one part of conservation framing. Artwork-facing materials, mounting method, glazing, backing, frame depth, and the ability to remove the artwork later also matter. Use the design a custom picture mat when the project needs another outside size, window opening, border width, color combination, or construction.

Bulk picture mat bundle questions

Is the listed size the artwork size?

No. Each product lists the outside mat size and the window-opening size separately. Measure the artwork and confirm how much of it should remain visible through the opening.

What is the difference between 4-ply and 8-ply matboard?

Eight-ply matboard is thicker and creates a more prominent beveled window edge. It also occupies more frame depth, so include that thickness when checking the complete framing package.

Are all bulk mat bundles archival?

No. Crescent Select 4-ply and 8-ply products in this collection are archival conservation matboards. Crescent Berkshire is a non-conservation decorative matboard.

Can you cut another mat size or opening?

Yes. The custom mat designer provides sizes, openings, border widths, colors, and constructions beyond the pre-cut combinations shown in this collection.
